Meet Welka
I’m originally from Poland, but I’ve called Ireland home for 10+ years now.
I’m a Microsoft Security Consultant who’s always been passionate about technology and has been a Microsoft enthusiast for a number of years.
I’m proud to represent women in IT, and I’m excited to share my knowledge and experience with you.
My Tech Journey
My tech journey is a testament to the idea that it's never too late to pursue your passion. Despite having a background in business and accountancy, my serious contemplation of a career in IT didn't kick in until my mid-20s. After dedicating seven years to working in the betting shop industry, I determined that it was time to move on – you won't find me setting foot inside a betting shop anymore! :) Following that chapter, I spent two years working in accounts, further diversifying my professional experience. The turning point came during the Covid-19 pandemic when I had the opportunity to reflect on my career path. It was then that I realised my deep interest in technology and the untapped potential within me to thrive in the IT world.
Armed with a business degree and a newfound determination, I delved into the fundamentals of computer science and embarked on a journey of continuous learning. Starting with CompTIA A+, I subsequently earned various Microsoft certifications, laying a strong foundation for my evolving career. I transitioned into the IT workforce, initially working on the service desk, where I quickly climbed the ranks to become a Service Desk Team Lead. However, the pursuit of my passion didn't stop there. Fuelled by a desire for growth and challenge, I made the leap to become a Microsoft Security Consultant.
Reflecting on my journey, I acknowledge that despite always having an interest in IT and assisting family and friends with computer problems, I initially held misconceptions about the industry. Growing up, I believed that IT was predominantly for men, and I often underestimated my own knowledge and skills in comparison to my male peers working in technology. Overcoming these preconceptions has been an essential part of my journey, and I'm proud to represent women in IT today.
The lesson here is that embracing your passion and breaking free from stereotypes can lead to a fulfilling and successful career, regardless of when you decide to pursue it.
The Purpose of This Blog
I decided to start this blog because I want to help people on their IT and Microsoft journey, whether they’re just starting off or have been working in IT for decades. I’ll be sharing some advice and tips based on my experience. This blog will primarily focus on Microsoft solutions, mainly Microsoft 365 and especially Microsoft Purview, but I have no doubt that there might be other elements appearing on here.
